Rev. Paul, 1985
|
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles Los Angeles, California. Associate Pastor. Headed the development of the growing Hispanic community, regular marital and personal counseling, pre-marital preparation, preparing sermons, presiding at liturgical services, and teaching adult education and scripture study classes. Designed and implemented a comprehensive plan for adult education.
Worked extensively with youth. One youth group was comprised of 130 elementary and junior high school age children. Another was 100 senior high school-aged young adults. Published a monthly newsletter for each youth group. Weekly visits to high-risk youth in a medium security detention facility. Student teacher to freshmen high school students. One day each week was devoted to spending time in the parish school, visiting grades 1-8.
Conducted a liturgy every Sunday evening for youth and their families. Another similar liturgy was done in Spanish for the Hispanic youth. Emphasis was placed on youth involvement in the liturgy and delivering sermons that were relevant, exciting, and often entertaining.
Six months of internship was spent in a parish in East Los Angeles where virtually all activities, meetings, classes, and Sunday liturgies were conducted in Spanish. |
